Sometimes going down a dead end is the necessary thing to do. Follow my logic, hit the wall at the end, turn around …your perspective has now changed although you are rooted in the same spot. Openings, the ones that let the light in, are there if you just pause and look the opposite way, even though it feels contrary to the direction you initially chose. I always take the less-used path. The darker, the steeper, the harder ones are my jam. I never quite understood the compulsion until I started pivoting. There is no better feeling than overcoming a hurdle, smashing a wall, piercing a ceiling. The harder the way there, the greater that feeling of accomplishment when you are over, past, through the difficult and dreary, despondent no longer, free to see the riotous colours, the grander shapes, the sunnier shadows. When in doubt, don’t just look over your shoulder. Turn around.
