Hands up if as a completely swamped designer you have not had any of your work photographed in the last two years. Exactly. So this morning while having a scrumptious brunch at the adjacent Clarendon Tavern I took things into my own hands and photographed a corner of my boyfriend’s pandemic passion project. During each lengthy lockdown (we had 5 here in Ontario..but who’s counting), he went to work on this gem of a watering hole, tearing out floors, patching up holes, hanging lights, choosing slabs called “revolution red” and dark green walls to set off the black leather piano key banquettes, picking lighting that mixed copper and brass, leather and jute, while scattering vintage lights throughout, making this a moody, masculine, utterly and uniquely sexy space. It’s a find. It’s divine. It’s the Hyde.
